The historic Dilaram Bungalow, sanctified by the stay of Swami Vivekananda as a guest of the then Dewan of Vadodara in 1892, was formally handed over by the Government of Gujarat to the Ramakrishna Mission on the auspicious Ramanavami day of Monday 18 April 2005. In a grand function held at the Gandhi Nagar Sabha Gruh, Vadodara in the evening the Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Narendrabhai Modi handed over the keys of the historic Dilaram Bungalow with the official documents to Srimat Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj, Vice-President Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission in the presence of a large number of Government officials, distinguished citizens of Vadodara and other invited guests. The Bungalow has been handed over to the Ramakrishna Mission on 30 years' lease at a token rent of Re.1/- for converting it into a befitting memorial of Swami Vivekananda and a new branch centre of Ramakrishna Mission has been started named as Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara.
The day long celebration to commemorate this great and historic occasion began with mangalarati in the morning in the newly set up shrine with pictures of Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda. This was followed by Puja and Special Homa conducted in the holy presence of Srimat Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj, Srimat Swami Shivamayanandaji Maharaj, Asst.Secy, Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Swami Adibhavanandaji, Swami Dhruveshanandaji, Swami Nikhileshwaranandaji, heads of the Limbdi, Rajkot and Porbandar centres of Ramakrishna Math and Mission and other guest Swamijis and a large number of devotees and friends. More than 400 devotees took noon prasad after the Homa.
At about 6.30 p.m. Shri Narendrabhai Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat, inaugurated the Exhibition of the 36 large-sized photographs of Swami Vivekananda with a brief history of the photos given below, in the august presence of Srimat Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj, Rev. Swami Shivamayanandaji Maharaj and other monks and devotees. The function of handing over the Bungalow at Gandhi Nagar Sabha Gruh began at about 6.50 p.m. with Vedic Chanting by monks of The Ramakrishna Mission. Swami Adibhavanandaji, head of Ramakrishna Mission, Limbdi in his address appealed to the people of Vadodara to come forward and co-operate with this newly established branch centre of the Ramakrishna Mission to spread the man-making and character building education of Swamiji throughout this region.
This was followed by welcome address by Swami Nikhileshwaranandaji, who in his address said among other things that this was indeed a thrice blessed day for the city of Vadodara and appealed to the people of Vadodara to render all possible help for the spiritual, cultural, educational, medical and welfare activities that will be undertaken through this branch centre - keeping in view the message of Swami Vivekananda of worshipping the divine in human beings. He also said that this great dream was fulfilled through the constant inspiration and blessings of Srimat Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj and the untiring efforts of Shri Narendrabhai Modi and the other administrators of the Government of Gujarat and numerous devotees and friends. Srimat Swami Shivamayanandaji Maharaj then read out the messages of Srimat Swami Ranganathanandaji - Most Revered President Maharaj of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission and Swami Smarananandaji Maharaj, General Secretary of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission.
Revered Swami Shivamayanandaji said in his address to the gathering that Vadodara, the great cultural city that it is, is very fortunate to have a fitting memorial in the name of Swami Vivekananda who blessed this city during his Parivrajaka days.
Shri Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister of Gujarat in his inspiring address said that it was his good fortune to be an instrument in the noble cause of dedicating this historic Dilaram Bungalow associated with the great patriot prophet of India Swami Vivekananda by handing over the keys of this building to His Holiness Srimat Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj with whom he had the great fortune to be associated since his student days in Rajkot. He said that Swami Vivekananda's divine personality and message will continue to inspire countless people especially the youths as his message is timeless. He also expressed his firm conviction that every inch of this holy Memorial will be utilised by the Ramakrishna Mission founded by Swamiji himself to spread the eternal message of India.
He further explained that Shri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda’s message of ‘Shiva Jnane Jiva Seva’ (worshipping the human beings as veritable manifestation of the Divine) has inspired countless people all over the world and he believed that this centre too will carry on this great tradition. He said that this great cultural city of Vadodara will benefit greatly by this Memorial and its service activities. He also requested the people of Vadodara to visit the newly inaugurated exhibition of photographs of Swami Vivekananda and draw inspiration by feeling his divine presence there.
Srimat Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj received the documents and the key of Dilaram Bungalow from Shri Narendra Modi and in-turn handed them over to Swami Nikhileswaranandaji, who has been appointed the head of the new centre of Ramakrishna Mission of Vadodara. Revered Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj released the Information Brochure entitled ‘Swami Vivekananda at Vadodara’ symbolizing the starting of a new centre of Ramakrishna Mission at Vadodara and felicitated the Chief Minister and dignitaries sitting on the dais – Smt Mrunalini Puar, Chancellor of M.S University, Vadodara, local MP, local MLAs, District Collector and Commissioner of Police by gifting to them photographs and books of Swami Vivekananda. Srimat Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj in his brief but highly emotional Presidential speech said that his heart was filled with such a great sense of joy that he found it difficult to express it in words. He prayed from the bottom of his heart to Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi and Swamiji to bless this historic memorial of Swami Vivekananda to enable it to serve the people of Vadodara and Gujarat for their all round welfare. Swami Dhruveshananda, head of Shri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Rajkot proposed the vote of thanks and express his gratitude to all those who had made the establishment of this great Memorial to Swami Vivekananda possible by their strenuous efforts and those who were instrumental for the success of the function.

As per the tradition of last more than a hundred years, Ramakrishna Mission (which was established in 1897 by Swami Vivekananda to give practical shape to the teaching of his Guru - Shree Ramakrishna Paramahansa of “worshipping the divine through service to humanity”) has started relief work for the flood affected people of Vadodara and Surat from 8th August 2006. 32,235 dry food packets(weighing 7451 kg) containing ganthia, bundi, biscuits etc. and 26,500 pouches of drinking water have been supplied to the District Administration for being air dropped through the helicopter among flood affected people of Surat. 4450 dry food packets (weighing 670kg) containing ganthia, bundi, biscuits etc. have been distributed among flood affected people of villages Kalali, Akota, Jetalpur etc. 1,200 kits(containing 10 kg. Wheat flour, 5 kg. Rice, 2kg. Dal, 1kg. Sugar, 1kg. Salt, 100gm. Turmeric powder, 100gm Chilly powder, 1kg. Oil & 250gm. Tea power) of food grains have been distributed among flood affected people of Kalali, Talsat, Virpur, Metad, Hanspur, Kothwada, Mahamadpura, Muval, Masar, Pawda, Navapura, Sandhi, Pindapa, Shera, Sultanpura, Danoli and Thekaraia Mubarak of Vadodara district
A conference on Gujarat Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Bhav Prachar Parishad was held on 6th December, 2006 in the Ashrama premises. It was inaugurated by Swami Smarananandaji Maharaj General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math & Mission. Monks and Devotees from various parts of Gujarat participated in the conference. The representatives of various non-affiliated centres gave details of their activities and their future plans. The Heads of the centres of Rajkot, Limbdi and Porbandar presided over various sessions and guided the participants.
Seminar on Education for Human Excellence
A seminar on 'Education for Human Excellence' was organized in collaboration with the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda on 7th December, 2006. It was inaugurated by Swami Smarananandaji Maharaj, the General Secretary of Ramakrishna Math & Mission. Dr. Manoj Soni, Vice Chancellor of M. S. University of Baroda was the Chief Guest. Swami Atmapriyanandaji, Vice-Chancellor of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University gave the key-note address. The feed back of the seminar was excellent. A large number of Deans of various Faculties of University, Lecturers and students participated.
Shri Vijay Nehra, IAS, District Collector, Vadodara urged upon the brilliant students (Top ten of Vadodara of CBSE Board) to dedicate themselves to the service of the Nation and Gujarat State (which is a vibrant state) apart from building up their own career, while congratulating them and felicitating them in a function organized by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara on 15 th June in the Ashrama premises. Earlier, Swami Nikhileswaranandaji welcomed the students, their parents and dignitaries present on the occasion and reminded the students about the message of Swami Vivekananda-“Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached” and urged upon them to go forward in their life and develop their total personality by combining IQ, EQ and SQ and then work hard to fulfill the dream of Swami Vivekananda of a glorious India, more glorious then she ever was in the past. All the students were presented Citation of Honor, a photo frame of Swami Vivekananda and a packet containing inspiring books.
Top ten students of 10 th and 12 th std. of Gujarat Board were felicitated in the function held at Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara on 22 nd June 2008. Prof. Ramesh Goyal, Vice Chancellor, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda was chief guest and Prof. S. M. Joshi, Pro- Vice Chancellor, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda was Guest of honor they advised the brilliant students to give due importance to character development along with career development and become enlightened citizens. Distribution of shields and prizes to students was done.
Swami Nikhileswaranandaji, the secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission, Vadodara urged upon students to march forward in achieving excellence on every sphere of life, since Swami Vivekananda had said, “Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached.” and requested them to make good use of a large number of inspiring books of Swami Vivekananda gifted to them by reading them and circulating them among their friends.
The learned speakers advocated celebrating 9/11 as the day of Harmony of Religions rather than the day of destruction because on 9/11/1893 Swami Vivekananda started the process of inter-religious understanding by pointing out the harm already suffered by humanity due to fanaticism and by emphasizing the urgent need of not only tolerating but accepting all religions as equally valid paths to reach the Ultimate Reality, while discussing about the significance of the historic speech delivered by Swami Vivekananda in the World’s Parliament of Religions on 9/11/1893. The meeting was organized jointly by Faculty of Medicine, M.S. University and Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara at C.C Mehta auditorium on 11 th September and was presided over by Swami Smarananandaji Maharaj, Vice-President of Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission. Dr. Manoj Soni, Vive–Chancellor of M.S. University was the Chief Guest. The speakers included Dr. Anil Kane, President of World Wind Energy Association, Swami Nikhilatmanandaji and Swami Nikhileswaranandaji. The Gold-Medalists of M.S. University were also felicitated by Ramakrishna Mission on this occasion in the presence of a large number of dignitaries including Shri S.M. Joshi, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of M.S. University, Dr. Kamal Pathak, Dean of Medical College, professors and students and their parents

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India was overwhelmed while visiting the historic Dilaram Bungalow (sanctified by the stay of Swami Vivekananda in 1892), on 30th March.
He was happy to see the newly constructed Show Room containing huge collection of books & CDs related to Yoga, Meditation, Value Education, Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Vedanta literature etc. He stood for a few minutes in awful silence in the Meditation Hall and showed great interest in seeing exhibitions on Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda, Public Library and other activities of Ramakrishna Mission started in Vadodara. He showed great enthusiasm in greeting the children and other admirers assembled in the premises. He discussed with inmates of the centre about the nation building ideas of Swami Vivekananda. During the discussions, he said that he was greatly influenced by the powerful message of Swami Vivekananda and read out the following message of Swami Vivekananda quoted by him in the book- “Voice without Form”, “My name should not be made prominent. It is my ideas that I want to be realised.”
Swami Nikhileswaranandaji, the Head of the centre presented him a photograph and books of Swami Vivekananda as well as the books written by him including the book containing sweet memoirs related to his earlier meetings with him at Porbandar and at Rastrapati Bhavan. Dr. Kalam in turn presented his books with his autograph.
Before his departure, Dr. Kalam was requested to come again to Vadodara to address about 5000 students of about 100 educational institutions when a Youth Convention will be organized by Ramakrishna Mission at Vadodara in the lines of the Youth Convention organized at Porbandar on 12th January 2006.
About four thousand people thronged to watch the Mono act Musical play by Internationally reputed Artiste Shekhar Sen on Swami Vivekananda organized by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara at Navarachna School Ground on 5 th April. The audience was spell bound for more than two hours such was the magical effect of the unique show.
A souvenir in aid of the renovation of the Memorial building(sanctified by the stay of Swami Vivekananda in 1892) was released on this occasion by Shri Bhagyesh Jha, Secretary, Department of Information, Govt. of Gujarat.
Swami Nikhileswarananda, the Head of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara thanked Navarachana Education Trust and Smt. Tejal Amin for coming forward to help in organising this unique show and motivating a large number of teachers and students to participate in the programme.
Shri Shekhar Sen and his associates were felicitated by Ramakrishna Mission and Navarachana Education Trust. Shri Shekhar Sen appealed to the people of Vadodara to visit Vivekananda Memorial in order to feel the presence of Swami Vivekananda there and to extend their help to the Ramakrishna Mission to enable it to carry out various humanitarian activities.
A 7½"feet bronze statue of Swami Vivekanada (Chicago Pose) was unveiled by H.E. the Governor of Gujarat Sri Nawal Kishor Sharma in the premises of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda memorial, Vadodara on the 12th January (Swami Vivekananda's birthday) in the presence of a large number of dignitaries, devotees and admirers. H.E. the Governor of Gujarat also inaugurated the Youth Convention organized as a part of National Youth Day Celebration and and launched the new project of Mobile Value Education Van (Vivek Rath) in the presence of Rev.Swami Srikaranandaji Maharaj, Asst.Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, Howrah (W.B.) Dr.(Mrs.) Mrunalini Devi Puar, Chancellor of the Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad University of Baroda, many Government Officers, dignitaries and a large number of students. Gold-Medalist students, donors and volunteers were felicitated on the occasion by H.E. the Governor of Gujarat which including the sculptor of the statue, the donor who bore the cost of the statue and State Bank of India for donating Rs.9 lacs to meet the cost of Vivek Rath.
About one hundred brilliant +students (Top 3 of Gujarat Board, top ten of Vadodara centre of Gujarat Board and top ten of Vadodara centre of CBSE of 10 th & 12 th std.) were felicitated by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara on 21 st June at CC Mehta auditorium in the presence of a large number of dignitaries enlightened citizens, teachers, students and their parents.
Shri P N Bhagwati, former chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India congratulated the students and advised them to dedicate their lives for the service of our country and to stick to the spiritual and cultural heritage of India. He also felicitated the students.
Dr.(Mrs)Mrunalini Devi Puar, Chancellor of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Shri Kantisen Shroff, the well-known Philanthropist and Industrialist and Shri Kanak Tiwari well-known Speaker and Writer of Chhatisgarh delivered inspiring speeches and felicitated the students.

"Human Rights of Underprivileged People should be Protected"

Shri P N Bhagwati, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India said that the rights of the underprivileged people should be protected by the law and the Constitution. He was speaking during the seminar organized jointly by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara and Baroda Bar Association at Nyay Mandir Hall on 21 st June in the presence of a large number of dignitaries, lawyers and enlightened citizens of Vadodara including Shri Atul Vakil, the Principal District Judge, Vadodara and Dr. Ramesh Goyal, the Vice-Chancellor of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.
Shri Kanak Tiwari, a senior Advocate of Chhatishgarh High Court pointed out special features and drawbacks of the Constitution of India. Earlier, swami
Nikhileswarananda, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara welcomed the guests and the audience and introduced the speakers. He also requested the citizens present in the meeting to visit the Memorial bungalow sanctified by the stay of Swami Vivekananda in 1892 and to participate in the service activities being carried out by the Ashrama.
Prof Des Cahill Melbourne, Program Director of the Parliament of the World’s Religions 2009 gave detailed information about the fifth Parliament of Religions to be held in Melbourne from 3 to 9 December 2009 and said that he was happy to visit the beautiful city of Vadodara which was sanctified by the visit of Swami Vivekananda in 1892, who gave his historic speech in the World’s first Parliament of Religions held in Chicago in 1893. He was speaking during the Inter-faith Meet organized by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara on the theme ‘Inter-faith Harmony’ at IG Patel Seminar Hall of M.S. University on 11th September in order to commemorate the historic speech of Swami Vivekananda delivered on 11th September 1893. Swami Prabhanandaji Maharaj, General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, Howrah (W.B.) presided over the Meet which was inaugurated by Dr. Shantilal Somaiya, Chairman of KJ Somaiya Trust, Mumbai. The learned speakers presented their views on this important theme of ‘Inter-faith Harmony’ from the perspective of their own faiths- Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Jainism, Zoroastrianism and Sikhism.
A seminar on ‘Value Education Why and How’ was organized by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara on 12th September at Seminar Hall of Faculty of Arts, M.S. University in order to bring happiness, peace and harmony in the society which is suffering due to erosion of values. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. (Smt) Mrunalini Devi Puar, Chancellor, the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and was presided over Swami Prabhanandaji Maharaj, General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, Howrah (W.B.) who spoke on the urgent need of introducing Value Education in our educational institutions and shared his rich experience of how to do while interacting with the participants. Dr. Ramesh Goyal, Vice-Chancellor, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and Dr. Manoj Soni, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University, Ahmedabad also spoke on this important topic. Swami Nikhileswaranandaji, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara welcomed the dignitaries on dais, invited educationists and the participants.
Dr.Kiran Bedi, IPS, recipient of Magsasay Award visited Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara (sanctified by the stay of Swami Vivekananda in 1892) on 12 th August, 2010 and addressed a gathering of educationists, teachers and dignitaries present at its premises on ‘Value Education’ and stressed on the importance of encouraging the students to read story books on Value Education. She showed special interest in visiting the Book-Sale Section containing books of Swami Vivekananda , and Value Education. She spent moments of silence in the Meditation Hall before leaving the premises.

Shri Rajiv Mehrotra, the popular TV star, film producer and director, Pravrajika Brahmaprana, an American Nun from the Vedanta Society of Southern California, USA, Dr. (Smt) Mrunalini Devi Puar, Chancellor of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and other speakers urged upon the youth to read the books of Swami Vivekananda for their total personality development and the success in life because they are ever inspiring specially for the youth. They were addressing a large number of youth gathered at C C Mehta auditorium at Vadodara during the Youth convention organised by Vadodara centre of Ramakrishna Mission as a part of National Youth DayCelebration on 12 th January 2011. About 80 gold medalist of the year 2010 of the various faculties of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and about 50 excellent students of Vadodara were also present on the occasion.
National Youth day was celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm at Vadodara on 12 th January 2011. A colourful procession with floats depicting various themes like National Integration, Inter-faith Harmony, Amar Bharat (Immortal India) etc., started from Vivekananda Cultural Centre and went through the main streets of Vadodara culminating at Vivekananda memorial. A large number of students, teachers, devotees and admirers joined the procession.
The electronic media can be an important medium for Value Education provided judiciously utilised. Thus was expressed by Shri Rajiv Mehrotra, the popular film producer and director and TV anchor while addressing the teachers, parents and students during the seminar on ‘The role of Electronic Media in Value Education on 13 th January 2011. Organised by Vadodara centre of Ramakrishna Mission in the Ashrama premises. Earlier, Pravrajika Brahmaprana, a learned nun of the Vedanta Society of Southern California, USA dealt at length on the end effect of electronic media on young minds based on her findings after many years of deep study on the subject.
Students urged upon to follow the teachings of Swami Vivekananda to Make India Great
H.E. the Governor of Gujarat, Dr.Shrimati Kamla urged upon the students to follow the teachings Swami Vivekananda and make India great in every respect, while addressing a gathering in the CC Mehta auditorium packed to full capacity in a function organised on 28/2./2011 by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara for distribution of prizes to the top three competitors of 27 districts of Gujarat (92) and their schools (92) who had become winners in the State Level Written Quiz Competition on Swami Vivekananda. Swami Nikhileswaranandaji, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial in his address of welcome gave the details about the competition and said that this competition was organised as a part of 150th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Swami Vivekananda in order to encourage the students to read the books of Swami Vivekananda so that they could receive inspiration to build their own character and dedicate themselves for the service of the nation. 34,267 students of 8th to 12th std. of 733 schools of 27 districts of Gujarat irrespective of caste, creed or religion participated in the competition in Gujarati or English.
The school level competition was organised on 31/1/2011 and district level competition for the toppers of the schools was organised on 8/2/2011. All the participants were gifted a copy of the book ‘A short life of Swami Vivekananda’ and all the toppers of school level competitors (733) and their schools (733) were given prizes in the form of books on value education. Apart from this, 50 students of various districts were given consolation prizes and 22 schools that encouraged more than 200 students from their schools to participate in the competition were also given prizes. Thus the total number of prizes was 1720. All the successful participants will be given certificates.

Mrunalini Devi Puar, the chancellor of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Dr. Jyotiben Pandya, Mayor of Vadodara, Shri Kantisen Shroff, well-known Philanthropist, Dr S.P Chaudhury, DEO, Vadodara, and Shri Naishad Makwana, DEO, Patan also remained present and distributed the prizes.Swami Adibhavanandaji, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Limbdi, in his speech pointed out how Mahatma Gandhi and other patriots derived their inspiration from the books of Swami Vivekananda. ALL RELIGIONS SPEAK OF HARMONY AND PEACE - P.N. Bhagwati
“All religions of the world speak of harmony and peace, non-violence and truth, so there should not be any quarrel between followers of various faiths.” This was expressed by Justice P.N. Bhagwati, former Chief Justice of India while inaugurating a State Level Seminar on “Interfaith Harmony for a Global civilization” organized by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara on 27 th March as a part of 150 th birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda.
The seminar started with the prayers of different religions rendered by students of various educational institutions. Swami Bhajananandaji Maharaj, Asst. Secretary of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, Howrah, ( W.B.) in his keynote address pointed out that the people all over the world are facing the problems of loneliness, meaninglessness of life, etc.; so all the religions should jointly endeavor to bring peace and solace to humanity rather than creating friction. Seven eminent speakers of different faiths spoke on the viewpoints of their faiths on the subject of ‘Interfaith Harmony’ in the second session.
Three eminent speakers connected with media presented their views on ‘Interfaith Harmony and Media” in the third session. Shri Kantibhai Bhatt, the popular columnist told that Swami Vivekananda for the first time had carried out globalization of Indian Spiritual Culture in the World’s Parliament of Religion held in Chicago in 1893. He added that media can play an important part in spreading the message of Inter Faith Harmony and bring global peace if it does not become prey of globalization and commercialization.
Four eminent Educationists spoke on the subject – ‘Interfaith Harmony and Education’ in the fourth session. Ms. Jyotiben Thanki, the popular Gujarati writer and Educationist pointed out in her speech by giving examples as to how small children easily take up the message of interfaith harmony.
175 th Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Sri Ramakrishna Dev (1 st phase) was celebrated at Vadodara from 28 March to 27 th April. The programme consisted of lectures by Swami Bhajananandaji Maharaj, Asst Secretary, Ramakrishna Math & Mission , Belur Math and other monks and eminent speakers on Bhagavan Shri Ramakrishna Dev, discourses on ‘ Shri Rama & Shri Ramakrishna ‘ based on ‘Ramacharitmanas ‘by Swami Nikhilatmanandaji Maharaj, discourses with music by Popular Kathakar Shri Dharmiklal Pandya ‘Manbhatt’ Bhajan Sandhya,’Shri Ramakrishna Leelagan’, Shri Ramakrishna Puran Katha, Film shows etc. A large number of devotees enthusiastically participated in all the programmes in the Ashrama premises.
6 th Annual function of Vadodara Centre was organized on 18 th April, 2011 since the historic Dilaram Bungalow (sanctified by the stay of Swami Vivekananda in 1892) was handed over by the Govt. of Gujarat to Ramakrishna Mission on 18 th April,2005. The public Meeting was presided over by Swami Dhruvshanandaji Maharaj Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Ashram, Rajkot. 111 volunteers were also felicitated on this occasion.
A permanent Book Stall of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial Vadodara Railway Station on platform No.1 was inaugurated on August 6, 2011 at 10.30 am by shri A K Shrivastava , Railway Divisional Manager of Vadodara Division (W.Rly.) for the benefit of thousands of passengers passing through Vadodara. Shri A k Shrivastava in his speech dwelt upon the history of book stalls which dates back to 1880 and said that Indian Railways has played an important part in the life of Swami Vivekananda, in fact the first disciple of Swami Vivekananda was Swami Sadananda who met Swamiji when he was the Station Master of Hathras Railway Station in (UP). while his name was Sharatchandra Gupta.
Earlier Swami Nikhileswarananda, Secretary Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara welcomed the large number of Railway officers, dignitaries and devotees present on the occasion and explained the importance of opening up such Book Stalls in Railway Stations and gave case examples about the persons who got new life when they chanced to read the books of Swami Vivekananda on Railway platforms. He expressed his gratitude to the Railway authorities in general and Shri A K Shrivastava, in particular for sanctioning the Book Stall on Platform No.1 in spite of the congestion problem which is incidentally the first one in the whole of West Zone. He said that efforts are being made to open such Book Stalls in various parts of India as a part of 150 th birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda. He also read out the message sent by Shri Bharat Sinh Solanki, Minister of State, Railways. Govt. of India, who could not come to inaugurate the Book Stall due to unavoidable circumstances.

Vivek Express was received with great enthusiasm by the citizens and the students of Vadodara ( 22nd and 23rd August), Anand ( 24th , 25th and 26th August), and Ahmedabad ( 27th , 28th and 29th August). Vadodara Centre organized extra exhibitions on Life and Message of Swami Vivekananda (with Gujarati translation), Book Stalls and Inaugural Functions at above Railway Stations with the help of Railway authorities and local devotees. In spite of intermittent rains, the total number of visitors during these 8 days was approx. 45,000 and total sale of our literature was approx. 4 lakhs. The local newspapers gave a good coverage. Dr. (Smt.) Mrunalini Devi Puar - Chancellor of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Dr. Harish Padh - Vice Chancellor, Sardar Patel University Vallabh Vidyanagar and Shri Rakesh Behal - Divisional Railway Manager, Ahmedabad Division ( W. Rly. ) inaugurated the exhibitions at Vadodara, Anand and Ahmedabad respectively.
Shrimat Swami Smarananandaji Maharaj ( Revered Vice-President Maharaj ) formally declared open the ‘Audio Visual Section’ of the Public Library of Vadodara Centre containing about 800 audio and videol CDs/DVDs on Value Education, Meditation, Scriptutes, devotional songs, etc. on December 25, 2011.
A Free Eye Camp was organized on 26/11/2011 at Badalpur ( Dist. : Anand ) in which 201 patients were treated free of cost and 19 were operated upon for Cataract. The operations were carried out in a hospital of Vadodara district
The Gold Medalists of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda were felicitated in a solemn function organized by Vadodara centre of Ramakrishna Mission on Sunday, December 18, 2011. Shri Ashwini Kumar IAS, Municipal Commissioner of Vadodara advised the Gold Medalists to remember always that they were specially talented members of the society and as such they should concentrate not only on developing their own career but also feel and work for underprivileged sections of the society. Shri Bhagyesh Jha IAS, Secretary, Dept. of Youth, Sports and Cultural Activities, Govt. of Gujarat shared a personal experience of his life; when he went to his father to inform him that he had received Gold Medal, his father contrary to his expectation did not compliment him but told him that he will get the joy of his getting gold medal only when he completes reading all the volumes of the Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda. He followed the advice of his father and got immensely benefited. He advised the students to read the books of Swami Vivekananda in order to get true success and happiness in life.

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the former President of India urged upon the youth to follow the message of Swami Vivekananda of Self Confidence, courage and integrity for achieving success in life. He told them that, ”Small aim is a crime” and urged them to work hard. He was addressing a large number of youths present during the Youth Convention organized by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara on January 18, 2012 at C.C. Mehta auditorium, Vadodara ( Gujarat ) , as a part of 150th birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda. After his inspiring speech, he replied to a few interesting questions – what was the most memorable experience of his life, what inspiration he derived from Swami Vivekananda, whether students should join politics after the studies or not, etc.
He also launched the scheme of ‘Vivekananda Centres of Positive Thinking and counselling’ to be started in the educational institutions of Gujarat by releasing the Information Brochure. The youths took the oath of dedicating their lives for protecting the environment by planting trees, serving underprivileged people and serving the nation as per the direction of Dr. kalam. They enthusiastically repeated with Dr. Kalam – “I will fly, I will fly, I will fly.”
Earlier, Swami Nikhileswarananda, the Head of Vadodara centre of Ramakrishna Mission welcomed the dignitaries and expressed his joy that Dr. Kalam having a positive bent of mind was launching the scheme of starting ‘Vivekananda Centres of Positive Thinking and Counselling’. He further said that Dr. Kalam was the right person to address the youths during 150th birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda, since he loves youths and has a dream of a developed India just as Swami Vivekananda loved the youth and had a dream of a glorious India – more glorious than she ever was in the past.

Govt. of Gujarat to Celebrate the 150 th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda
54,840 students of Std. 8 to 12 of 1066 schools of Gujarat enthusiastically participated in the State Level written Quiz Competition on the life of Swami Vivekananda organised by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara. The Prize Distribution Ceremony took place on February 21, 2012 at Sir Sayaji Nagargruh, Vadodara in the presence of a large number of dignitaries, teachers, parents and students. Top 3 of the State and top 3 of 27 districts (total 88 students) were given prizes in the form of memento, and books of Swami Vivekananda by Shri Ramanlal Vora, Minister of Education, Govt. of Gujarat, Shri Jitendra Sukhadia, Minister of State for Tourism, Food and Civil Supply, Govt. of Gujarat, Shri Balkrishna Shukla, Member of Parliament, Vadodara, Dr (Smt) Mrunalini Devi Puar, Chancellor , Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, and Dr (Smt) Jyotiben Pandya, Mayor of Vadodara.
Shri Ramanlal Vora, Minister of Education informed the audience that the Govt. of Gujarat has declared this year as Youth Year to celebrate 150 th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on a large scale and many interesting and inspiring programmes will be organised by Govt. of Gujarat for the students in collaboration with Ramakrishna Mission round the year. He congratulated the youths for showing interest in reading the books of Swami Vivekananda and congratulated Ramakrishna Mission for undertaking such a noble scheme of organising Competition on such a large scale, which will go a long way in building the character of students.
Shri Jitendra Sukhadia, Minister of State for Tourism, Govt. of Gujarat gave details of the programmes of Govt. of Gujarat to be organised to celebrate the 150 th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda viz, organizing Ratha Yatra covering the places visited by Swami Vivekananda during his parivrajak days, organising Public Meetings, and Youth Conventions, installing a statue of Swami Vivekananda at Somanath etc. For which state level, district level and taluka level Committees have already been formed.

Swami Vivekananda - an Icon of Modern Youth
Swami Vivekananda should again become an icon of youth, that will solve not only the problems of modern youth, but of the nation also. This was the feeling generated during the State Level Youth Convention organized by Ramakrishna Mission, Vadodara on 24 th March from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in which about 1100 selected youths from all over Gujarat participated. As a prelude to this State Level Youth Convention, district level youth conventions were organized in various parts of Gujarat in which about 13,000 youths participated. Based on their feedback, selected youths were invited to participate in State Level Youth Convention. A State Level Essay Competition was organized for college students in which 1412 students participated; out of which 100 finalists were also invited to participate.
The Youth Convention was inaugurated by Prof. Yogesh Singh, Vice Chancellor, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, who stressed on cultivating the spirit of patriotism and combining science and technology with Indian culture during his inspiring speech. Shri G. Narayana, the well-known Management Trainer gave the secret of developing leadership qualities among the youth. Shri Ajay Umat, Senior Editor of Times of India, said that Swami Vivekananda will remain an icon of youth forever citing his own example. He told that when he was a student, his father wrote on his note book the message of Swami Vivekananda – “Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached” and told him to read the books of Swami Vivekananda. By following his advice, he progressed much in his life.
Prof. N. Ravichandran, Director IIM, Indore said that the message of Swami Vivekananda is very relevant for the modern youth, hence IIM Indore, celebrates the National Youth Day every year ( Swami Vivekananda’s birth day ) in a befitting manner. He also gave the panchsheel for success based on Swami Vivekananda’s teachings.
Dr. Jitendra Adhia, well known Mind-Trainer urged upon the youth to use the untapped mind power for achieving success like Swami Vivekananda and gave a practical demonstration of the power of sub-conscious mind.
Swami Sarvasthananda, Adhyaksha, Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Rajkot pointed out the importance of spiritual power for the youth based on Swami Vivekananda’s message of potential divinity.
After the lunch interval, a portion of the popular animated film “Veer Narendra Vivekananda” was screened.
Shri Sam Pitroda, Chairperson, National Knowledge Commission could not come due to his prior engagements but during the Video Conferencing, he delivered an inspiring speech and gave pointed and prompt replies to the questions of the youths. During the question – answer session, he said that our priority should not be to become super power but to feed the hungry people of the country who are below poverty line. He urged upon the youths to follow the simple life style of Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi and not to become a prey of consumerism. He said that the model of development of America is based on consumerist culture. We should not imitate that model; we should follow our own model of development based on our culture, based on the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi, so that other countries like South Africa should also follow our model rather than USA model. He said that his immediate concern was not advancing in technology but to see that the benefits of the modern technology reach the grass root level. He advised the modern youth to give more importance to action rather than academic discussions, quoting Swami Vivekananda’s name and said that they should clean the garbage next door rather than worrying about what is happening in Delhi. He appreciated the efforts of Kutch University of starting ‘Eklavya Virtual class room scheme’ and the resolve of some students to bring 100 % female literacy in Vadodara district and said that he will be ready to extend support for such noble activities. He also appreciated the efforts of Ramakrishna Mission of inspiring the youth in such a large number across the state.
In the concluding session, Smt. Jayanti Ravi, I.A.S., Commissioner of Higher Education, Gujarat, gave details of the transformation being brought about in the educational system of Gujarat and promised her whole hearted support for introducing ‘Vivekananda Centres of Positive Thinking and Counselling’ in all the colleges of the Government.
Shri Bhagyesh Jha, I.A.S., Secretary, Department of Youth, Sports and Cultural affairs said that the Government of Gujarat has declared this year as the ‘Youth Year’ because Swami Vivekananda is the icon of the youth and this will be the best tribute to Swami Vivekananda on the occasion of his 150 th birthday. His speech consisted of poems and jokes and entertained the youth.
Prizes were distributed to three toppers of State Level Essay Competition held for college students. A special award was given to a blind girl who had participated and had written a good essay on “The problem of Modern India and Swami Vivekananda” with the help of a writer.
Swami Nikhileswarananda, the Head of the Vadodara Centre thanked all the speakers, the Heads of the institutions and dignitaries, representatives of Press and media and the students who had participated with so much of enthusiasm.
After the national anthem, all the participants were gifted books and photographs of Swami Vivekananda. In their feedback form, the youths expressed that it was a wonderful experience for them. Some of them said it was a life time experience for them. Some of them promised to carry out some social work as a part of the follow-up programme.
Shri Narendra Modi, Honorable Chief Minister of Gujarat, could not come personally but sent a message of appreciation and best wishes.
A Seminar on Value Education was organized by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara for Principals and Teachers of English Medium Schools of Vadodara on 21st August, 2012 as a part of the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda. It was inaugurated by Dr (Smt) Mrunalini Devi Puar, Chancellor, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. She shared her personal experience of teaching life with the teaching community saying that her unforgettable movement of life was when Dr. A P J Abdul kalam while receiving Ph.d. degree awarded by the Maharaja sayajirao University of Baroda from her
hands remarked that of all the Ph.d. degree received by him, that one was Special because he was receiving it from the hands of a teacher.
Shri Mahendrabhai Jani, Director of Vivekananda Vidyapith, New Jersery USA shared his valuable experiences related to Value Education and the secret of his success. Dr S P Chaudhary, District Education
Officer, Vadodara stressed on the urgent necessary of imparting Value Education in all the Educational institutions. The participants were given practical suggestions of introducing value education in their
own schools and they were also requested to motivate the students to participate in the State Level written Quiz Competition organised by Ramakrishna Mission. The participants departed from the Ashrama
premises with satisfaction and a gift packet of books on Value Education.
Another seminar on Value Education was organised on 22nd August for Gujarati Medium Schools of Vadodara. This was inaugurated by Prof. Yogesh Singh, Vice-chancellor, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, who in his inspiring speech said that Swami Vivekananda brought back self-confidence and pride in our motherland, which we had lost through slavery of centuries. The participants responded warmly to the
practical suggestions given to them for introducing value education in their educational institutions based on the ideas of Swami Vivekananda. They were all gifted books related to value education.
Spiritual Intelligence - the ultimate intelligence
Spiritual Intelligence is the ultimate intelligence,SQ is more important than EQ(Emotional Quotient) and IQ(Intelligence Quotient).This message was conveyed to about 50 Gold Medalists of The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda on 23rd December 2012, while they were felicitated by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara. Ms Bhagesh Soneji ,Chairperson of the Associated Chamber of Commerce of India ( Gujarat Chapter ), Ahmedabad ,during her presidential speech narrated how she got inspired from the life of Swami Vivekananda and became great entrepreneur and inspired the students to go and read the books of Swami Vivekananda and to give importance to character building along with academic excellence .
Unique Laser shows on the Life of Swami Vivekananda by USA based Shri Manick Sorcar (son of the legendary magician Shri P C Sorcar) were organised by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara (Gujarat) two in Vadodara on 2 nd January, 2013 and one in Ahmedabad on 6 th January, 2013. As a part of the 150 th birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara organised a State Level Essay Competition on “The Problems of Modern Youth and Swami Vivekananda” in English and Gujarati for college students in which 995 students of about 125 colleges of Gujarat participated. Out of these students, one hundred students were selected based on the merit of the essays written by them and they were married to made to write essays on the same subject under supervision at Vadodara. Three students were selected based on their performance and were given prizes in the Youth Convention organised on January 12, 2013. Dr. (Smt.) Mrunalini Devi Puar, Chancellor, the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda was the Chief Guest. She shared her personal experience as to how she got inspiration from the books of Swami Vivekananda and Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi while she was a student and distributed the prize to the following students.

Foundation of the Proposed Lecture Hall was laid by Swami Prabhanandaji Maharaj, Vice-President, Ramakrishna Math & Mission, Belur Math, in the premises of Vadodara centre of Ramakrishna Mission on 30 March. The estimated expenditure is Rs. one crore only. An Appeal for donation was circulated on that day and it was announced that the list of persons who have donated Rs 1 lakh or more will be displayed in the Hall.
One L E D screen was installed by Swami Prabhanandaji Maharaj, Vice-President, Ramakrishna Math & Mission, Belur Math on 30 March, 2013 in the premises of Vadodara centre of Ramakrishna Mission for popularsing the message of Swami Vivekananda as a part of the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda. The screen is facing the Railway Station and the people going from Railway Station side to Alkapuri side on the important road (R.C. Dutt Road) stop to read the message of Swami Vivekananda displayed on the Screen. Thus the screen is proving very useful in popularsing the message of Swami Vivekananda.
Swami Vivekananda said “I am no metaphysician, no philosopher, nay, no saint. I am poor, I love the poor.” He also said, “Him I call a Mahatma whose heart bleeds for the poor, otherwise He is a Duratma.” Swamiji was a true Mahatma, whose heart bled for the poor. He had expressed his desire to a disciple of starting an ‘Annakshetra’ (Langarkhana) for feeding the poor irrespective of caste, creed, color, or religion at Belur Math.
In order to pay our homage to Swami Vivekananda as a part of his 150th birth anniversary celebration, Ma Sarada Annakshetra was started for providing noon meals free of cost to 150 selected helpless poor people every day. The project was inaugurated by Swami Prabhanandaji Maharaj, Vice-President, Ramakrishna Math & Mission, Belur Math on 30 March, 2013. During the Public Meeting people were requested to help in this noble project by donating Rs. 5,100/- to cover the cost of any day of their choice.
Audience Enthralled with Divine Music
All the people got enthralled at Vasvik Auditorium, Vadodara on April 21, 2013 while listening to the divine music presented by expert singers-Swami Kripakarananda of Belur Math, Dr.(Smt.) Subhadra Desai of Delhi, Duet singers Abha and Vibha Chourasia of Indore, and Vanita Thakkar of Vadodara during the programme organised to pay musical tribute to Swami Vivekananda who himself was a great musician, who had written a book – in Bengali during his student days ‘Sangeet Kalpataru’. This was a serial to the eleven day long celebration organised as a part of the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda as well as the eight Annual Day Celebration of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara from April 12 to 22, 2013. The programmes included Public Meetings (in which monks of various centres of India delivered lectures), discourses on Ramacharitmanas (with music), discourses on Swami Vivekananda Katha (with music), Dhyan Shibir and Bhajan Sandhya.

The Message of Swami Vivekananda Relevant for the Modern Youth of the Globalised World
The message of Swami Vivekananda of strength, universal brotherhood, character building and social service is very relevant to the modern youth of the whole world. This was the conclusion arrived at in the International Youth Conference organized in commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Swami Vivekananda, by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara, Gujarat,(India). Held at the commodious CC Mehta Auditorium in MS University, on August 10 & 11, 2013, the Youth Conference was inaugurated by Sri Nitinbhai Patel, Minister of Finance, Government of Gujarat, on 10th August morning. Swami Suhitanandaji, the General Secretary of Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Belur Math, was the Guest of Honour.
In the Special Opening Session, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India, addressed and interacted with 600 youth delegates drawn from 24 countries such as USA, Afghanistan, Germany, South Africa, Switzerland, Bangladesh, Taiwan and so on. Written as well as video-recorded message by the Director General of UNESCO especially sent for the Youth Conference was read out and played during the inaugural function.
This first ever International Youth Conference organised by world-wide Ramakrishna Mission was addressed by a number of eminent speakers drawn from different walks of life including several monks of the Ramakrishna Order.
The highlights of the two-day Conference included a video conference and interaction with Sri Sam Pitroda (Chairman, National Innovation Council and Advisor to the Prime Minister of India on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovation) and address by Dr. Bikas Sanyal ( Vice Chairman, UNESCO International Initiative for Capacity Building in Africa), experience-sharing by Ms. Arunima Sinha (the first woman of the world with artificial leg to scale Mount Everest), short speeches by several foreign youth delegates, and cultural presentations by various groups.
The programme was live webcast and widely reported in the media.
You might be glad to know that as a part of the 150th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Swami Vivekananda, a Regional Convention on Tribal & Folk Culture was organised by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara on December 1 & 2, 2013 at Sir Sayajirao Nagargruh, Vadodara. About eleven hundred delegates (mostly tribal youths) of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha participated enthusiastically, some of them presented excellent performances on tribal & folk culture. A few popular Artistes also gave wonderful performances before the enchanted audience.
The Convention was inaugurated by Shri R C Meena, Commissioner, Tribal Development, Govt. of Gujarat. Apart from cultural programme there were academic sessions on ‘Preservation of Tribal & Folk Culture’, ‘Swami Vivekananda & Tribal Development’, ‘Art, Music & Culture according to Swami Vivekananda’ and ‘Education & Culture’, in which impressive speeches were delivered by eminent speakers and monks. The entire programme on both the days from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. was webcasted livestream which was witnessed by 38,267 persons from 21 countries.
Vadodara centre of Ramakrisnna Mission published a book in Gujarati - 'Gujaratma Swami Vivekananda' as a part of the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda which was released by Shri Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat on 11th January, 2014 in a function organised by the Government of Gujarat at Gandhinagar to mark the concluding of its two year long celebration of Swami Vivekananda's 150th birth anniversary in the presence of a large number of youths from India and abroad apart from a large number of Ministers and dignitaries. The Government of Gujarat has placed an order of one lakh copies for distribution in libraries and institutions of Gujarat.
1. A Free Eye Camp was organised by Vadodara centre at village Piludara
(Taluka: Padra, Dist: Vadodara) on 09.03.2014 in which 164 patients were treated free of cost and 31 were operated upon for cataract. The operations were carried out in a hospital in Bharuch district.
2. A Drama on Swami Vivekananda in Gujarati ‘Yuganayak Vivekananda’ produced by Dr. Vikram Academy of Performing Arts was organised on March 5, 2014. About one thousand people watched the drama with great appreciation.
3. Vadodara centre monitored the first phase of Swami Vivekananda Gujarat Rath Yatra from 12 January, 2014 to 12 March, 2014 organised jointly by Gujarat Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Bhav Prachar Parishad and four affiliated centres of our Order. 70469 people joined Shobha Yatras at various places and 43,150 people benefited from public meetings in 42 villages of south Gujarat. 132 lectures were organised in educational institutions, 70,469 copies of the book ‘ Shaktidayi Vichar’ (Gujarati Translation of Thoughts of Power) were distributed free cost. Total sale of Ramakrishna Vivekananda literature was approx 6 lac.

Positive Thinking – Solution of all Problems of Youth
Positive Thinking will solve all the problems being faced by the youths today. This conclusion was drawn during the seminar on ‘Positive Thinking and Youth Counseling’ organised by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara on August 4, 2014 at prof. C C Mehta auditorium, Vadodara as a part of the concluding celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. (Smt.) Mrunalini Devi Puar, Chancellor, the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. After the invocation by Swami Atmadipanandaji, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Porbandar, Swami Nikhileswarananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Vadodara welcomed the guests on dais and introduced the topic. Dr. B M Palan, well-known Mental Health Consultant explained the importance of using positive words during communication. Swami Atmashraddhanandaji, Editor, Vedanta Kesari, and Swami Sarvasthanandaji, Adhyaksha, Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama , Rajkot, provided useful insight on the subject. Swami Vishwatmanandaji Maharaj, All India Coordinator of the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda, Belur Math in his presidential speech explained the importance of youth counseling in the present scenario. Ms. Bhakti Sharma, the youngest female swimmer in the world to swim 4 oceans and 7 seas delivered an inspiring speech based on her own achievements. Dr. Kiran Shinglot, well-known Counselor provided solutions to various types of problems submitted by the large number of youths present on the occasion in the Group Counseling session. The feedback was excellent and many youths expressed their desire to become members of Vivekananda Centre of Positive Thinking.
A Souvenir Published by Ramakrishna Mission, Vadodara
A Souvenir to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda entitled 'Swami Vivekananda – a Global Leader for a Global Civilization' published by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara was released by Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj, a senior Trustee of Ramakrishna Math and Adhyaksha of Shri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai in a public meeting held at Vadodara on April 12, 2015. The souvenir contains tributes paid by World Thinkers on Swami Vivekananda, articles by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Irina Bokava (Director General of UNESCO) Anna Hazare and others and the report of activities conducted by the centre as a part of the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda. The souvenir is enriched with more than two hundred photographs.
An All India Youth Leadership Conference has been organized by the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara from 28 June to 30 June, 2015, in order to acquaint the youths with the character building message of Swami Vivekananda and to develop their leadership qualities and to channelize their energy towards socio-economic development and growth of the nation.. The program is open to young people of the nation irrespective of caste, creed, colour or religion in the age group of 15 to 29 years. About 600 youths from 15 states will be participating in the conference.
The conference will be formally inaugurated by Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Minister of State (IC) Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India on June, 28, 2015 at 2.00 PM. The Speakers include internationally acclaimed management experts like Shri G. Narayana, and achievers like Padmashree Arunima Sinha. While many people know about the Parliament of World Religions held in Chicago in 1893, thanks to Swami Vivekananda's forceful and inspiriting lectures, not many know that efforts have been made to revive this historic development by holding a similar events every five year since 1993. The next session of the Parliament of World's Religions will be held from 15 to 19 October 2015 in Salt Lake, City, Utah, USA. A Pre Parliament Event in this regard was jointly organized on 9 August by Ramakrishna Mission, Vadodara, and the Council for a Parliament of World's Religions in India.
The one day event at Vadodara, was inaugurated by Dr Karan Singh, the noted scholar and statesman, in the presence of Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid, the present Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions, Chicago, Lord Bhikhu Parekh, eminent Scholar and Writer from London, Swami Gautamanandaji, Adhyaksha, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai, and other dignitaries.
Several sessions of the Pre Parliament Event that followed witnessed noted leaders and scholars of various religions dwelling upon the salient features of their faiths while calling for harmony and peace. The main theme of the Pre Parliament Event was 'Reclaiming the Heart of Our Humanity', and it was attended by about 700 delegates of various religions.
The whole programme from 9.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. was broadcast live stream through the website of the Ashrama. About 12,000 persons of various countries watched the programme.
Youth delegates hailing from 13 countries including a majority from India took part in the two-day Second International Youth Conference organised on 10-11 August 2015 by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara, Gujarat. The Conference focused on several youth related issues as development of personality, the role of youth as a global citizen and leader, youth and peace, inculcating human values and scientific temper, service and spirituality, among others. Inaugurated by the Governor of Gujarat, Sri O P Kohli, the Conference was attended by about 700 youth delegates. Several senior monks from various centres of Ramakrishna Math and Mission, renowned writers, motivational speakers and persons of eminence addressed the gathering including Michel Potter, Internationally Acclaimed management expert of UK. As a part of the Conference, Message from the General Secretary of Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Belur Math was read out and a viedo conference with Dr Manubhai Vora a Management Expert from USA was held. The delegates were enthusiastic in their participation and expressed their happiness and gratitude for organizing the Youth Conference.

Shri Narendra Modi, The Prime Minister of India in his message sent for The National Youth Convention organized by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara from 3 to 5 July, 2016 as a part of the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Sister Nivedita, wrote – “I am sure, this convention will go a long way in inspiring the youth of India to follow the ideas and teachings of Swami Vivekananda and Sister Nivedita and rededicate themselves to the cause of nation building.” The youth participating in the valedictory session of the Convention during their feedback expressed their feelings that they felt energized after listening to the inspiring lectures by eminent speakers and will dedicate themselves to the cause of nation-building.
The convention was inaugurated by Smt. Shubhangini Devi Gaekwad, Chancellor of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda on 3rd July at 10:30 am at Prof. C.C.Mehta auditorium, MSU campus, Vadodara. Shri Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Minister of Education, Government of Gujarat presided over the first session and said that the books of Swami Vivekananda work like antivirus in the present scenario when there is virus of tension, depression and suicide all around. Shri Rajiv Gupta Secretary, Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, presided over the valedictory session.

Achievers- Ms. Bhakti Sharma, the world record holder in swimming, Ms. Saachi Soni, the Mountaineer and achiever of many awards, Ms. Mira Erda, the youngest girl of Motor sports of India and Ms. Zeal Marathe, National Bravery Awardee inspired the youth with their success stories and emphasized on the need of meditation and reading the books of Swami Vivekananda for going forward in the life full of struggles.
About 600 participants of 15 states of India enjoyed the cultural programs by Ms. Vanita Thakkar & Smt. Swati Thaker and drama on Swami Vivekananda. The participants also enjoyed the educational tour of Narmada Dam on 5th July.
Swami Nikhileswarananda, Head of Vadodara center of Ramakrishna Mission expressed his gratefulness to the speakers, volunteers, media and participants and requested the participants to recharge their mental battery daily by reading the books of Swami Vivekananda. The participants were gifted books of Swami Vivekananda and Sister Nivedita.
